So. Aroostook has a new outdoor classroom for all to enjoy! Mr. Ralph Vetter, Mr. Rob Betschner, and some of the high school students have been hard at work to create an outdoor classroom and nature trails. A big thank you to Mrs. Lawlor's students for all of their hard work raking and shoveling mulch for the trail.
To enhance the program, Ms. Kristen Fitzherbert, science teacher at So. Aroostook, applied for and was approved a $2000 grant. The grant is through the Fast Track Grant Program of the Maine Community Foundation and the Perloff Family Foundation. It will help purchase furniture for the outdoor classroom and other learning materials.
These nature trails and the outdoor classroom will be available for all classes. Ms. Fitzherbert will be coordinating and scheduling class time. The entrance to the nature trail that leads to the classroom is only a 3 minute walk from any classroom in the building.
