We are now into the 1st trimester of school and school is going very well. We are very thankful for the work the students, parents and staff to help make this a successful start. We appreciate parents support to keep their child home when they are sick. If you have questions of whether or not you should send your child to school, please contact the school nurse, Kathy Chamberland. We are also asking parents to call the school to let us know if your child is absent from school.
Remote learning has been challenging for our teachers, but they have been doing a great job supporting all of our learners. To clear up any confusion about remote learning there will be a couple of adjustments moving forward.
1. If a parent is requesting to move their child to remote or in-person instruction, parents will need to notify the principal(s) first to discuss options. We will make a determination based on the best interest of the child. We will need to plan for a smooth transition for the student, transportation, and for social distancing in classrooms. For middle or high school students, please contact Jon Porter. For elementary students, please contact April Bates.
2. Remote learners are the only students who will be allowed to "zoom in" during instruction. If an in-person student is sick and stays home for the day, they are absent and will not be required to join the class for live instruction. The loss of instructional time because of the remote requests from students who are absent from school, teachers trying to connect additional students in the class, etc. is impacting the teaching and learning happening in the building.
Students who stay home because they are sick should access their homework and assignments on Google classroom or Seesaw, email their teacher for their assignments, but will not be required to join a google meet to attend class in-person. Students absent from school may also request to meet with their teachers during teachers "office hours" to get support with any lesson they may have missed. This change keeps the roster of remote learners consistent and manageable for the teachers.
If you have any questions, please contact the school. Thank you.
