During the past 5 days, our elementary school has celebrated the annual Read Across Aroostook Week. We've read lots of books, had class participation challenges and a school wide Stop Drop and Read event! So fun!
During the past 3 weeks our first graders have been exploring holidays, symbols and celebrations in our country. Many books have been read, videos watched, maps used and words written about favorite symbols or monuments. It's been an enjoyed topic with lots of new learning!

Fifth graders studied the rainforest and researched some of the animals that live there. Then they created papier-mâché versions of those animals.

Mrs. Desmond's second graders have been learning about the weather. Today they performed a play titled, "The Wind and The Sun." This was a fun performance to watch and it even included an interactive audience. Thank you, second graders for sharing your hard work and talent!
RSU 50/Southern Aroostook Community School is currently advertising for three positions. Please see the attached pictures. There is an immediate opening for a custodian. There are also two teaching positions posted for the 2025-26 school year.

Fifth graders “escaped” school on Friday and went to @Vault 51 at Stewart Professional Learning Center in Lincoln where they participated in Mt. Katahdin themed escape room. All teams were successful and escaped by using their thinking, communication, and cooperation skills.
Congratulations to the newly inducted members of the Southern Aroostook High School National Honor Society. New members were recognized for their outstanding scholarship, leadership, character, and service. Students inducted last night include: Dillan Bishop, Jazmyn Ellingwood, Ruth Greene, Krayton Hogan, Connor Lilley, Gabriel Martinez, Lily Rush, Ryder Russell, and Annabelle Small. Thank you to the current NHS members and NHS advisors Mrs. Brewer and Ms. Fitzherbert for a great induction ceremony last night and your continued service and leadership you provide to our school and community.
Note from the School Nurse:
Beginning Friday, March 28th, 2025 Southern Aroostook Community School/School Health Services Department will be hosting a nursing student from NMCC's Nursing and Allied Health Department. This community placement will provide school-based clinical experience as the nursing student learns about the roles and responsibilities of the school nurse, as well as how the nursing process is put into practice in
the holistic care of children at different age levels. The nursing student will practice under the direct supervision of the School Nurse (Kathy Chamberland,
R.N., B.S.N) and will be allowed to observe and participate in the many aspects of school nursing such as preventive care, emergent care, assessment, documentation, medication administration, on-site special programming, and so on. The student nurse will be in our school a few days between March and April and will be working directly with the School Nurse during that time. This nursing student is a senior-level student who has had many hours of clinical training and experience and is bound by the HIPPA Act and must comply with all laws of patient confidentiality.

Congratulations to Southern Aroostook High School senior Coda Goodwin on his acceptance into the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences at the University of Maine with a major in Psychology. Coda also was accepted into the University of Maine at Presque Isle and received a merit scholarship in the amount of $2,000 for academic excellence!

Congratulations to seniors Hope Curry & Ethan Collier on being selected to represent Southern Aroostook High School at the annual Aroostook County Senior Athletic Scholarship Banquet. Every school across Aroostook County selects one boy and one girl to represent their school and have a chance to be selected for a scholarship. Both Hope and Ethan have been chosen because of their outstanding dedication to athletics and academics.
The awards ceremony was held today at the Rendezvous Restaurant in Caribou. Congratulations to Hope on also earning a scholarship today from the Aroostook League.
