Just a reminder to RSU 50 parents, Wednesday, January 25th is an Early Release Day. Student dismissal will be at 11:15am.

So. Aroostook High School believes many people are aware of the shortage of basketball officials across the State and in Aroostook County. Yesterday, So. Aroostook High School played four games at Fort Kent High School, two junior varsity games and two varsity games.. There were also a total of 21 games played in Aroostook County yesterday. There were only 21 basketball officials working yesterday. What did this mean for the Northern Maine Board Of Basketball Officials (IAABO Board #150)?
This meant that most of the officials working yesterday refereed at least two basketball games. This also meant some of these officials refereed three basketball games in one day. Some of these officials traveled to one school to referee a game and then traveled to another school to referee another. It also meant that IAABO #150 referee assigner Pedro Rodriguez had to work with schools and officials to make sure every game was assigned a referee.
So. Aroostook High School would like to thank all of the IAABO #150 officials for continuing to referee "County" basketball games. Thank you for driving countless miles in Winter weather to make sure we can play. Thank you for giving back to the student-athletes your basketball expertise and time, even when your muscles are sore from refereeing night after night, all Winter long. We know this a thankless job but your work is inspiring!!
Here are a couple of pictures taken from the Northern Maine Referee Facebook Page. Check out their page and consider taking a refereeing course to give back to the youth of Aroostook County.
So. Aroostook Community School is saddened by the news of the passing of legendary educator and basketball coach Phil Faulkner. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family, friends, former players and colleagues.
Coach Faulkner spent his lifetime teaching, coaching basketball and soccer, umpiring softball games, and serving as an athletic director. He is a member of the UMPI Hall of Fame, The Maine State Legends Hall of Honors and the Maine Basketball Hall of Fame.
Phil had spent the last several years coaching at So. Aroostook High School in the boys basketball program as the middle school boys, the junior varsity boys, and the asst. varsity boys basketball coach. Last winter, Coach Faulkner and Coach Russell helped lead our boys team to our program's first State Championship since 1991. His impact as a coach and a mentor to our student-athletes will be long lasting. We were very fortunate Phil had the opportunity to work with kids. Thank you Coach!!

Wanted to recognize Brayden Peters and the effort he’s been putting into our JV/Varsity basketball broadcasts this year. He’s been up top for every game and last night was no exception. When a full slate of school activities on Thursday night left us short handed, Brayden stepped up to run the whole show. Great job Brayden!
